The Sandman Saga is the unofficial title of a storyline that ran in Superman (Volume 1) from issues #233-235, then from issues #237-238, and finally from issues #240-242. The storyline has Superman dealing with a sand-made duplicate of himself.
Synopsis
The duplicate emerged from the dimension of Quarm following an accident with a Kryptonite energy-harnessing machine that rendered all Kryptonite on Earth into harmless iron. Superman discovered that this duplicate of himself was draining him of all of his super-powers and
was also intending to take over as the new Superman near the storyline's end. It was during this storyline that Clark Kent was made a news anchor for WGBS News, which he remained as in addition to being a news reporter for the Daily Planet until John Byrne's The Man of Steel (Volume 1) reboot in 1986.
