Superman: Secret Origin is a 2009 miniseries by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank. Superman's origin story, most recently told in 2003–2004's Superman: Birthright limited series, has received numerous retcons and changes in the aftermath of the Infinite Crisis storyline.

Synopsis

Secret Origin was told from the perspective of Clark Kent and no single issue took place on his homeworld of Krypton. According to Johns, the story began with Clark's "earliest memory," and will be, "his story of self-discovery and the world's story of meeting Superman."

Dan DiDio decided to have Secret Origin run as its own mini-series, instead of having it play out within a Superman title as Johns had done previously with Green Lantern: Secret Origin. This was due to DiDio feeling that this method "gives them a little more time to work it, they don't have to struggle against the ongoing schedule, and it won't throw off the triangles on the covers which keep track of the story. They'll be doing the definitive origin of Superman as we've seen it all take place, and incorporating the changes that we've seen or suggested since Infinite Crisis."
