Superman: The Man of Steel #2 is an issue of the series Superman: The Man of Steel (Volume 1) with a cover date of August, 1991.

Synopsis for "The Kid Who Talks to Superman"

At the orphanage, Keith Robert Parks makes his prayers, thanking God and Superman for stopping Cerberus' attacks in Metropolis, but Myra corrects him, saying Superman is no god or guardian angel. Meanwhile, two agents of Cerberus attack and set a computer facility on fire.

The next afternoon, Cerberus sends an automatic Apache chopper that fires napalm missiles at the Newstime Magazine building, where Jimmy Olsen is working. Superman interferes and attempts to take the helicopter to the river, but the drone self-destructs, leaving another message from Cerberus, warning that Metropolis will burn by six. After the chopper is gone, Superman rescues the people caught in the fire inside the building.

Cerberus' threat worked, and most of Metropolis's population decides to leave the city. The board of directors at LexCorp realize that these Cerberus terrorists might be linked to a Tattamalian industry LexCorp attempted to take over. They accept Cerberus's demands, but the terrorists fire the napalm missiles at the city anyway. Superman prevents most of the rockets from hitting, but one of them explodes at the highway. He saves the civilians caught in the cars when he suddenly hears a cry for help coming from Keith. The kid, following his cat, stumbled into the terrorists' lair, and they kidnapped him. Superman crashes in and deals with the terrorists, who end up being cyborgs that shut down when the man of steel interrogates them. The lair sets on fire, and Superman rescues Keith, his cat, and the two terrorists before the building explodes.

Upon reuniting with Keith, Myra tells him that he might be right about Superman being the guardian angel of Metropolis.
