Synopsis for "The Professionals"
At the Daily Planet Lois is showing Perry her article on Lexcorp and its involvement in insurance fraud. Clark's super hearing picks up gunfire and zips off to investigate street gangs using super weapons called "Toastmasters." He is assisted in stopping the gang by Steel. Steel says that his armor got destroyed during the battle in Engine City so he is giving up being a super hero. He will move back to DC and investigate further into how these Toastmasters are getting into circulation.
While Cat Grant assures her son that Jose leaving is not his fault, over at Lexcorp Lex fires one of his employees for talking to Lois Lane. At the rich estate of the Backhand family in Philadelphia a group of assassins known as Nuclear Waste (Strongbox, Fadeout, PDQ and Hardknox) eliminate the group of thugs inside. After they are done they receive a message from a "Happy Syd" to take care of an embarrassment for Lexcorp.
After Superman stops a tornado from destroying a home, Clark and Lois discuss a kid who has gone missing. Lois gets called away to investigate a hostage taking at a nursing home. When Superman shows up the two discover that the hostages were a ruse designed to get the attention of the media so that they could tell the story of the horrible state that the building is in.
In an unknown lair, Bloodthirst is implanting special devices in an unknown patient. The implants will give them the ability to summon weapons at will. Elsewhere two kids are on top of a subway train painting "Superman Lives" as part of a gang initiation. The train begins to move before they are done, and one of them almost falls off the train. They yell for Superman's help, and he swoops in and saves the day. At that same moment a Lexcom satellite's orbit is decaying and falling down to Earth. Superman sees it, flies up and shoots it back into space.
Back in the unknown lair, Bloodthirst and his accomplice discuss their plans to test and best Superman. When Superman returns from orbit, he sees a man drowning under the Hob's River Bridge. As he flies down to investigate he is ambushed by the Nuclear Waste mercenaries. A battle ensues and they try to distract him, but Superman rushes into the water to save the drowning man. At the same time, he also hears the cries of the missing girl. Her captor attempts to comfort her with a toy, and the assurance that she won't be alone for long, as he has plans to kidnap Cat Grant's son, Adam.
The drowning man turns out to be the Lexcorp employee who was fired for talking to Lois Lane. Superman is unable to hear the crying girl anymore and assumes that whatever was wrong has subsided. He rushes off to save more people as Lois is concerned he is overdoing it since he came back.
