Notes
- Superman navigation number 1996/13.
- This is the fifth and final issue of "Team-Up Month", a mini-event announced in the Superman letter columns. Superman navigation numbers 1996/9 to 1996/13 all featured a prominent super-hero guest star, complete with their logo on the cover (in the style of DC's former team-up comics The Brave and the Bold (featuring Batman) and DC Comics Presents (featuring Superman)).
- Captain Marvel refers here to the last time that Lady Blaze tried to manipulate the two heroes against each other. It happened in Superman (Volume 2) #102. Before this, they previously encountered one another in Action Comics Annual #4.They next met in The Power of Shazam! #20.
- Captain Marvel and Superman previously fought, and later teamed up, in Superman #102.
Trivia
- At the end of this story, Captain Marvel and Superman play arm wrestling for the first time. It ended in a stalemate as an emergency needed the heroes' attention, as seen at the beginning of Action Comics #720. They would play arm wrestling again, this time in a less amiable situation, in The Power of Shazam! #46.
- This is not the first time that Captain Marvel has come to Metropolis. He was there in Adventures of Superman #442, Adventures of Superman #489 and Adventures of Superman #522. But this surely is Shazam's first time in the city.
