Synopsis for "Up in the Sky, Part 1: Alice"
This story is reprinted from Superman Giant #3.
Clark gets called by Bruce to Gotham and is informed about a couple and two of their foster girls being murdered. Another girl Alice was abducted but one survived after being shot, and he wants him to find out the details from her. The injured girl admitted at the Gotham Mercy hospital states that they hid in a bush after hearing loud noises and screams. After being shot, she saw Alice being taken by a spaceman who flew away towards the sky.
At the Daily Planet, Clark tries to convince Perry White to let him investigate the murder of Alice's family but receives a mouthful over covering murders in Gotham which witnesses a lot of murders every day and is called naïve. Later while fighting a dinosaur with Hal Jordan, Superman gets told that the mysterious spaceman seemingly used a counterfeit Zeta-Beam to teleport from Earth and no one on Earth knows how to trace them. Hal states they contacted the Rannians for finding where the spaceman went but they're stalling on the issue. Though an alert had been sent to the entire Green Lantern Corps, Hal states it would be very difficult to find her.
Superman explains to Batman that he can't go looking for the girl as he has duties on Earth, but Bruce tells him that he can since he's not like anyone else on the planet and tells him to go to Rann. After performing a few tasks and thinking it over, Clark asks Pa Kent who states maybe others will find her but maybe they never will and she will keep hoping that someone will come rescue her. He later learns from Bryuce that the girl he talked to in Gotham Mercy succumbed to her injuries. Clark later tells Lois he'll have to leave the planet to search for the girl. As they banter, he states he knows he can't save everyone but wants to save Alice, before he flies away from the Earth.

Synopsis for "Up in the Sky, Part 2: Just Luck"
This story is reprinted from Superman Giant #4.
On the planet Rann, Sardath tells Superman that tracking the zeta beam the mystery spaceman used is impossible due to an active Zeta existing at all places. They tried tracking the beam with a Computo 3, but it got destroyed and nothing remained of its code which said "I can't." Clark decides to track the beam's location himself despite Sardath's warnings of it driving him crazy for sure.
Clark remembers how a kid named Logan Kinny was fatally injured while pretending to be Superman and after learning about this from Lois, went to see the kid himself. Wonder Woman while fighting a beast alongside him, tells him not to blame himself as he is an inspiration and people will keep trying to copy him. He then dreams about his father's hologram telling him how much the word has suffered in the ten years he had been away from Earth and starts repeating what Sardath had told him inside his mind.
He next dreams of standing on a rooftop, about to jump along with a little girl who asks if he'll save her when she does. Clark responds that he doesn't know, reassuring her since she thought he would say he can't. She states how while on the way to Bode's galaxy, she stopped at a space museum which showed the life of a baby who escaped from the exploding Krypton and was raised on Earth. However she states that the baby wasn't really different, but like others and her. As he learns her name is Alice, he suddenly wakes up and tells Sardath about the Zeta-beam's destination, stating it was a matter of chance. As he flies away, Clark states he doesn't have time for being stuck.
