Superman & Batman: Generations (1999—1999)

Superman & Batman: Generations was a four-issue limited series written and drawn by John Byrne to celebrate the 60th anniversaries of Superman and Batman. An Elseworlds tale, it takes place in a continuity where characters age in real-time. Each issue contained two stories, each set 10 years apart, starting with the first meeting between Superman and Batman in 1939. It follows these heroes as they grow old, have children and pass the torch to younger heroes.

This was (notwithstanding the unofficial precursor Batman/Captain America) the first entry in Byrne's Superman & Batman: Generations series, and followed by two sequels: Generations II and Generations III. Their shared setting was retroactively designated Earth-3839.
