Superman Family #202 is an issue of the series Superman Family (Volume 1) with a cover date of August, 1980. It was published on April 7, 1980.

Synopsis for Supergirl: "The Dynamic Duel"

Supergirl checks out that her accidental post-hypnotic suggestion to Peter Barton didn't wear off when Peter nearly beats up a man who accidentally shoved Val Myles after rushing out of a bank. Supergirl changes into Linda Danvers, takes Peter aside and hypnotizes him into forgetting his Dynamic identity.

Peter seems normal now, but Linda needs to make sure of it. Since Peter changed to Dynamic during a thunderstorm, she creates another and watches Peter. Since he looks still normal, she leaves. But when the storm is directly overhead, it triggers Peter's split personality again. Peter changes clothes and bolts out of his building, unaware that he is being watched by Harry Stuart, the man who previously bumped into Valerie and is plotting a bak heist.

Obsessed with finding and protecting Valerie, Dynamic's rampage accidentally floods the town. Supergirl fixes the damage as keeping herself out of sight, unaware that the mayhem caused by Peter was hindering Stuart's planned robbery. Supergirl ponders that she was in a clasroom full of potentially telepathic students when she accidentally hypnotized Peter, so maybe their thoughts reinforced her mental suggestion. Kara gathers the students again and asks them to focus their thoughts on her.

Supergirl confronts Dynamic again and removes her mental suggestion for good. However, Val warns that Peter was about to stop a bank robbery. Supergirl quickly puts Stuart down and then she finally convinces Peter that Valerie isn't Supergirl. But, much to Supergirl's anguish, Peter decides he is free to hook up with Valerie again.

  • A text box in the former issue states the present issue would be on sale April 10th.
  • "The Man Who Discovered Kryptonite":
    • When Superman recalls his first encounter with Kryptonite ("Superman Returns To Krypton!" in Superman #61) the gem is green rather then the red it actually was. This is a change that has also been made when that story has been reprinted.
    • A footnote in this issue states "Lois still uses her maiden name as a reporter", meaning that her byline is still "Lois Lane", and that's how she introduces herself while working. However, as previous stories have established, he legal name is now "Lois Lane Kent", and that's the name she uses in her personal life.

Trivia

  • "Swan Dance for a Girl Reporter " contains an acknowledgement to Alfred Hitchcock's "Torn Curtain".
