"Supergirl: "Payment on Demand"": As arriving at the Galaxy Communications building, Supergirl finds Blackrock busting in the building. Kara engages him, but the villain runs away after a brief fight.

I don't get it, Perry. Why does she bother? She's got her rep-- She can be a columnist, a TV-star-- Write Superman's biography and make a million bucks-- Why does she still hack away at the newspaper grind?
Inspector Bill Henderson

Superman Family #212 is an issue of the series Superman Family (Volume 1) with a cover date of November, 1981.

Synopsis for Supergirl: "Payment on Demand"

As arriving at the Galaxy Communications building, Supergirl finds Blackrock busting in the building. Kara engages him, but the villain runs away after a brief fight.

Shortly later, Kara is helping her friend Lena Colby move to the next door apartment, when Lena suddenly gets dizzy. Lena insists it's just another of her fleeting headaches, but Kara gets worried. Lena works as "Secret Hearts" scriptwriter Greg Gilbert's secretary, but her boss is lately neglecting his job, and Lena spends much time covering up for him.

The next day, Greg looks real absent-minded at work, so Linda suggests him to go out to dinner. Greg has run out of money, though, so he takes her to his apartment, where he is attacked by a knife-wielding thug demanding money. Linda saves Greg covertly, and Greg confesses he owes $30,000 in gambling debts to Sal, a mobster who runs an illegal gaming parlor. Linda can't provide the kind of help Greg needs, so she leaves, unaware that Blackrock was spying on them and has overheard their conversation.

As Kara flies to the Fortress of Solitude to ask Superman information on Blackrock, the villain cuts a deal with Greg: if Greg steals the blueprints for a 3-D television from the GBS Research Lab, he'll deal with Sal. Greg accepts, but he realizes too late that Blackrock will probably murder Sal instead of paying him off. Greg remembers his secretary Lena mentioned she could contact Supergirl, so Greg asks her to summon Kara and asks her help.

Supergirl flies towards Sal's illegal casino, which is already under Blackrock's attack, and engages the villain. Unfortunately she's being beaten by Blackrock, who has guessed Greg has betrayed him, and gloats he'll kill Greg after he completes his part of the bargain.

At that same moment, Val Colby and his grandmother Ida enter Lena's apartment and find her unconscious and sprawled on the floor.

Synopsis for Mr. & Mrs. Superman: "The Great Superman Hoax"

Manny Tharp, a reporter from the Evening Standard, disguises himself as Superman and relates a false story of Superman defeating a flying saucer to Lois Lane, in hopes that the Daily Star will publish the story and then Superman will refute it, damaging the Star's reputation. But Lois isn't fooled by the impersonation, so Superman comes up with a scheme (with the help of Susie Tompkins and her alien friends) to make it look like Tharp's story is true. Tharp is then fired from the Standard for not writing the flying saucer story for them and giving the scoop to the Star.
