Synopsis for "Superman: Up in the Sky, Part 2 – Just Luck"

On the planet Rann, Sardath tells Superman that tracking the zeta beam the mystery spaceman used is impossible due to an active Zeta existing at all places. They tried tracking the beam with a Computo 3, but it got destroyed and nothing remained of its code which said "I can't." Clark decides to track the beam's location himself despite Sardath's warnings of it driving him crazy for sure.

Clark remembers how a kid named Logan Kinny was fatally injured while pretending to be Superman and after learning about this from Lois, went to see the kid himself. Wonder Woman while fighting a beast alongside him, tells him not to blame himself as he is an inspiration and people will keep trying to copy him. He then dreams about his father's hologram telling him how much the word has suffered in the ten years he had been away from Earth and starts repeating what Sardath had told him inside his mind.

He next dreams of standing on a rooftop, about to jump along with a little girl who asks if he'll save her when she does. Clark responds that he doesn't know, reassuring her since she thought he would say he can't. She states how while on the way to Bode's galaxy, she stopped at a space museum which showed the life of a baby who escaped from the exploding Krypton and was raised on Earth. However she states that the baby wasn't really different, but like others and her. As he learns her name is Alice, he suddenly wakes up and tells Sardath about the Zeta-beam's destination, stating it was a matter of chance. As he flies away, Clark states he doesn't have time for being stuck.

Synopsis for "Alienated"

This story is reprinted from Green Lantern (Volume 4) #4.

Outside Coast City, two soldiers are driving along the road, late at night, and run down a little grey alien. As the two soldiers look at it, the alien dies, saying that it just went out for a cigarette.

Hal Jordan observes the recreation of the Green Lantern Corps with Kilowog, the chief trainer of the Corps. Kilowog explains that after Parallax was defeated, Ganthet accelerated the infant Guardians of the Universe to adulthood. They then locked themselves in the Citadel, making new Power Rings, and talking to Kilowog via his ring. The rings began sector scans four days earlier, and haven't stopped since. Several veterans will be re-invited to join, but the majority of the Green Lantern Corps will be newcomers. For old times sake, Hal and Kilowog engage in a hand-to-hand sparring match in a mud marsh, but Hal is distracted by a telepathic voice. His ring intercepts a call to his home phone on Earth: General Stone needs Green Lantern's help.

Hal arrives and scans the alien, discovering it is not an alien at all, but an evolved human. Stone receives a call from Belle Reve: Hector Hammond wants to talk to Green Lantern about the body.

Hal visits Hammond's cell, demanding to know who is responsible for the evolution. Hammond was evolved under similar circumstances, but is unwilling to talk without experiencing some of Jordan's memories. Hal allows this, but Hammond goes too far and steals too many memories, prompting Hal to beat him. Hammond admits that all he knows is that they are aliens performing experiments and they are in Coast City now.

Meanwhile, a newly mutated Shark emerges from the water and devours a couple.
