Superman Returns: Prequel #1 is an issue of the series Superman Returns: Prequel (Volume 1) with a cover date of August, 2006. It was published on June 7, 2006.
Synopsis for "Krypton to Earth"
Many years ago on the planet Krypton, scientist Jor-El addresses the Kryptonian Science Council. He warns them that a geothermic condition exists that will destroy the planet. His peers upon the council question Jor-El's motivations, and grow concerned that his outrageous claims may result in sowing discord among the populace. They know that Jor-El possesses a space ship and warn him not to leave Krypton. Jor-El gives his word that neither he nor his wife will attempt to flee.
Jor-El returns home to his wife Lara and son Kal-El. He tells her that the council rejected his warnings, but he knows that Krypton only has a few hours left before it dies. They place infant Kal-El into their space ship and provide him with a special crystal, which contains all knowledge of Kryptonian culture and heritage. The rocket blasts free of orbit just as Krypton explodes.
The infant Kal-El remains adrift for several years until finally crash landing on the planet, Earth. Jonathan and Martha Kent are driving down a highway when they see the energy trail of Kal-El's rocket. They stop to investigate and discover a small naked child emerging from the ship.
