Synopsis for "The Last Days of Superman"

Chuck, a Daily Planet cameraman, gets too close to a jewel thief and has a jewel of Green Kryptonite embedded in his camera. Chuck's constant presence at Clark's side whenever he's at the Planet office causes Clark to weaken, and doctors diagnose the ailing Mr. Kent with Walker's Disease -- giving him 30 days to live. Clark realizes this also means the end of Superman.

Superman goes around the world completing heroic deeds to help humanity after he's gone. He retrieves large amounts of oil and coal that should last the world years; destroys unnamed intercepting planets; and carves his epitaph on the surface of the moon, complete with the revelation of his secret identity -- Clark Kent.

Once he discovers that the Kryptonite in Chuck's camera is the cause, he uses his x-ray vision to burn it so that Lois would toss the camera out. Superman is restored to normal super health, and he heads out to the moon to erase the message bearing his secret identity.

Kal-L Earth-Two 0007
  • The second story, "The Last Days of Superman" is an Earth-Two story that would later be repeated by the Earth-One Superman, in Superman #156; except that Walker's Disease would be called Virus X.
    • The splash page of "The Last Days of Superman" portrays Superman writing his Last Will and Testament. Variations on this image would be repeated much later in Superman #156 (October 1962), and in Action Comics #364 (June 1968).
