Synopsis for "To be a Hero"
Superman worries about whether he lives up to the values he used to represent. As Clark Kent, he intends to help Jimmy Olsen finish up some stories for the Daily Planet, but he soon discovers that Jimmy is covering a wildfire in Los Angeles. Lois and Clark investigate the fire, and discover that it's unlikely that the fire was naturally caused, prompting Superman to go to the scene.
Elsewhere, John Henry Irons investigates the O.M.A.C.s despite his injuries, because he wants to be like Superman.
Jimmy is riding along in an airtanker working on suppressing the fire, but it soon crashes, when one of the sources of the fire, Effigy attacks the plane. Superman arrives soon after, to find Scorch leading a group of fire-powered villains in maintaining the fire. They explain that the fire was a lure to bring Superman there so they could kill him for allowing the heroes to cross the line.
Jimmy manages to save the pilots of the aircraft before it explodes, and activates his Signal Watch. Meanwhile, a couple living nearby who have been following the story on their television, resolve to save the crash survivors, despite the dangers.
On New Chronus, Supergirl and Firestorm discuss the difficulties of being in a battle in the far reaches of space, but resolve to continue because Superman inspires them.
Eventually, Superman explains the truth about Wonder Woman's crossing the line. He manages to convince Scorch, who holds her compatriots back as Superman creates an updraft, taking away their air and causing them to fall unconscious. A nearby Bizarro is inspired by his actions.
Superman manages to save the couple and the crash survivors from the flames, and he commends the couple on their bravery. The couple responds that he had inspired them to act.

Trivia
In most comics, Scorch's flames are colored red/orange. However, in this comic they're bright blue, presumably to make them different from the others.
