Synopsis for "Superman Reborn, Part 3: Don't Pass Go"
Jon still remembers the last moments he spent with his parents before some mysterious blue flames consumed him and teleported him away to an empty dimension that only contains glowing blue photos of his family.
Meanwhile at Metropolis, Superman asks Lois to remember Jon, their son, but Lois does not know what Superman is talking about. As far as she knows, they are not married and they do not have a son together. Desperate, Superman asks Mr. Mxyzptlk to return and put things back the way they used to. Mxyzptlk quickly returns to Metropolis and agrees to play a game with Superman and Lois. He takes the couple to a parallel dimension Mxyzptlk uses as a personal playground, all the while explains that the love Superman and Lois share is so powerful that cosmic forces more powerful than even him have tried and failed to break them apart; and if those forced failed, Mxyzptlk will not even try. He also says that whoever tampered with the fabric of the universe also separated Superman and Lois into two separate entities. The Superman and Lois of the new world were composed of red energy, while the current Superman and Lois are composed of blue energy. With the red Superman and Lois dead, only the blue Superman and Lois are left to play Mxyzptlk's game.
Mxyzptlk creates an enormous building that he calls "The Infinite Planet" and says that Jon is waiting for his parents at the very top. If Superman and Lois reach the top and reunite with Jon, Mxyzptlk will leave and never return; but if they fail, Jon will remain by Mxyzptlk's side forever and his parents will remain lost and forgotten. The terms are written in a contract that Superman and Lois reluctantly sign. The game begins and Mxyzptlk warns husband and wife that the higher they climb, the faster the blue energy they are composed will fade away.
As he floats in the empty void, Superboy comes across two spheres of glowing red energy. Although the spheres do not speak, Jon is able to understand them just fine and correctly deduces them to be Superman and Lois Lane, or at least different versions of the parents he knows and loves. Much like his parents, Jon is composed of blue energy and easily connects with the red spheres.
Mxyzptlk's cosmic game continues, and Superman and Lois do their best to reach the uppermost floor of the Infinite Planet, all the while trying to retain their memories of each other and Jon. Although Superman and Lois succeed in reaching the top floor, Mxyzptlk refuses to give Jon back and calling Superman and Lois cheaters. However, Jon is able to hear his parents from afar and asks the red spheres for help in saving his parents.
Jon and the red spheres break free from the Infinite Planet's globe, just as Superman and Lois fall off the building. The red spheres touch Superman and Lois causing a massive explosion to streak across the dimension. When light fades, Both Jon and Mxyzptlk are shocked to discover that the Superman of Prime Earth and his Lois Lane have returned to life.
