Synopsis for "Black Dawn, Chapter 1"

Hamilton County enjoys a calm and peaceful afternoon. Jon and Krypto play with Kathy Branden while Clark and Lois watch them from their front garden. Suddenly, a storm reaches Hamilton and Kathy is forced to return to her house with her grandfather while the Kents get into the storm cellar. Once they are safe within the storm cellar, the Kents play a match of billiard, even Jon insists they could watch a movie. The storm passes and the Kents go to bed.

Jon hears a noise coming from the barn and sees Superman is already heading there to investigate. Putting on his uniform, Superboy goes to assist his father and they find Batman and Robin waiting for opportunity to speak with the Kents. Lois catches up to them as well and invites the Waynes into the Kent household. Once they are all gathered in the table, Batman informs Superman that he has examined Superboy's physiology and theorizes that Superboy, even at his early age, should be more powerful than his father in his prime. Batman suspects something is hindering Superboy's power. Superman dismisses that notion but Batman believes that whatever is affecting Superboy must be in the food he eats. Lois informs the Kents do not junk food very frequently and tells Batman about the dairy farm owned by the Cobbs, longtime friends of the Kents, motivating Batman to investigate the dairy farm.

Batman infiltrates the farm and extracts a milk sample from one of their cows. Suddenly, the sample turns into a black fluid that envelops Batman, leaving him to be captured by a stranger hidden in the shadows.
