Synopsis for "Black Dawn, Chapter 2"
Jon awakens after a good night's sleep and enthusiastically awakens Damian as well, much to Damian's chagrin. The boys get to the kitchen to eat some breakfast and Lois asks Damian why Batman has not returned yet. Clark thinks that maybe they should go looking for him but the doorbell rings. Kathy and her grandfather have come to deliver some bottles of milk for the Kents. TO avoid suspicion, Jon introduces Damian as his friend Garth. As Kathy and his grandfather leave, Mr. Cobb gently pats Krypto on the head, causing the dogs eyes to glow with a strange purple light.
Meanwhile, at an unknown location, the stranger that captured Batman monitors the Kents and expresses interest on turning Jon to his side, but first, he will need a distraction.
Much later, Superman flies above Hamilton with the Super-Sons holding onto his back. The three heroes search for clues regarding Batman's disappearance; however, their search must be put on hold, as the squid Superman and Superboy found in the Arctic a few months back is attacking the county fair. Superman drops the boys off and attempts to incapacitate the squid, but the squid uses its ink to create humanoid creatures in order to defend itself, which pushes Superboy and Robin to intervene. The boys evacuate the civilians while Superman uses a giant Ferris wheel to trap the squid and throw it into the shore. The squid, however, remains hostile and one of its tentacles injures a woman. Superboy, reacting out of instinct, kills the creature with his heat vision. Superman calms his son down but Officer Haggart, a local policeman, says that Superboy puts the safety of civilians before the safety of the perpetrator, something that Superman himself should have done.
Later, on a faraway field, Superman and the Super-Sons continue their search for Batman. Superboy wonders if he did the right thing by killing the squid, especially because the citizens praised him for it, but Superman tells his son not to let himself be dominated by fear. Robin tells Superman that Superboy and his friend Kathy visited Deadman's Swamp and found a mysterious there and maybe that's where Batman. Superman, annoyed with his son's insubordination, sets out to find Batman by himself and tells the Super-Sons to go home.
Robin insists on continuing the search for Batman but Superboy no longer wants any trouble with his father. The discussion turns violent, but suddenly, Kathy arrives and, in a display of telekinesis, throws Robin away from Superboy, who attempts to shoot Kathy with a burst of heat vision. Kathy deflects the shot and says the man she is working for has plans for Jon. Meanwhile, Superman arrives at Deadman's Swamp and enters the mysterious house.
