Quote1 Ouch. Sorry you had to watch that, Jon boy..but desperate times call for desperate measures. Anything less and innocent people are bound to suffer. Your dad and I butted heads over it in the past, but he never would see it my way. Had to give up on the Big Blue Boy Scout. But you can be different. You've got what it takes. Black is black. White is white. There's the innocent and the guilty...and Manchester Black says it's time we have a new Superman in town, mate. Quote2

Synopsis for "Black Dawn, Chapter 4"

Lois confronts Mr. Cobb and asks him how could betray the trust the Kents had in him but Mr. Cobb says that Lois does not see the big picture and that he and the people of Hamilton have been preparing Jon for a new life and a new world. Lois blasts Mr. Cobb with her gauntlet. At the same time, Superman investigates the chamber holding his friends captive. Until he knows what exactly the chamber is, he refrains from breaking the stasis tubes open. Mr. Cobb says that Superman leaves no choice and uses his telekinesis to crush Lois' gauntlet. Superman hears Lois' pained grunts and rushes in to save her, throwing Mr. Cobb with his fist.

Superman berates Cobb for endangering his family and wonders if Kathy is even a real girl. Cobb says Kathy is indeed real, just like everyone in Hamilton. Jon is locked up in the stranger's base of operations and is forced to observe Superman's fight with Cobb from a series of screens. He attempts to free himself with his heat vision but the stranger has covered the walls with black mirrors, causing the beams to deflect. The stranger forces Jon to continue watching the fight, which sees Superman trap Cobb with several metal bars and then knock him out with a flick of his wrist. Superman and Lois then fly to the city, which is under attack by a large alien creature.

Superman drops off Lois in a safe place while he attempts to stop the creature’s rampage, only to see that a new group of metahumans calling themselves "the Super-Elite" is already fighting the beast. The Super-Elite is composed of the people from Hamilton, who are all superpowered aliens and fights the beast with lethal intent, to which Superman opposes, knowing the creature is simply scared and acting out of instinct. After some effort, Superman is able to restrain the beast but a stray piece of debris injuries Lois and slices off her right leg, horrifying both Superman and Superboy. Superman is able to cauterize the wound and reattach Lois’ leg with his heat vision; then, he takes his wife to a hospital while the Super-Elite violently assaults the creature.

Superboy is left demoralized by the battle and his mother’s injury until the stranger, revealed to be Manchester Black, tells Superboy that he can be a much better hero than his father. Together, they can succeed where Superman failed and will protect the innocent and punish the guilty.
