Synopsis for "Imperius Lex, Part 4: Liberation"

Apokolips has been consumed by darkness and cold but the battle for control over the planet continues. Superman and his family are reunited and they attempt to end the battle and minimize loss of life. The blind priest and Ardora still believe that Superman is destined to save their world but are unable to comprehend why is Superman reluctant to take Darkseid's throne. They ponder that, perhaps, they should serve Superman instead of commanding him.

As Kalibak and Granny Goodness fight each other, Superboy tells his Hunger Dogs to protect the unconscious Lex from anyone who tries to hurt him. Lois rushes to help her husband, an action that earns her the enmity of the Female Furies, who think Lois is weak for loving a man. Lois, however, says that her love for her family does not make her weak and she quickly defeats the Furies. As the battle continues, Kalibak grabs Lex and throws him into a pit but an aircraft saves Lex and shoots Kalibak into the pit. The aircraft is piloted by the priest and Ardora, who proclaim their loyalty to Superman. Granny Goodness is captured by the surviving soldiers but Superman orders her imprisonment.

After the battle, the priest and Ardora implore Superman to become ruler of Apokolips, appealing his feelings of hope and justice for all. Superman reluctantly agrees and, with the support of his family, works to bring peace and stability to the ravaged Apokolips. Superman and his family eventually decide to return to Earth, bringing the captured Lex along with them, but Superman leaves Ardora to lead Apokolips in his absence. He tells Ardora that the duty of her people is to create a government that serves the people, not oppress them.

Much later, back on Earth, Superman visits Lex on the LexCorp tower. Superman still does not trust Lex, but Lex is angry that even after everything he has done for Metropolis, Superman did not come to help him. Understanding that Superman will never see him as an ally or an equal, Lex tears off the S on his armor and blasts it apart in front of Superman, who flies away and says he will be watching Lex from now on. For better or worse, Lex has rejected Superman's legacy and decided to be his own man.
