Synopsis for "Lex Luthor Revenge Squad"

Just before Superman disappears, Lena Luthor asks LL-01 for LexCorp's file on her. LL-01 reads out the file, which turns out to just be a brief and purely factual account of her life: she is the daughter of Lex Luthor and Contessa Erica Alexandra del Portenza. When she was born, Luthor sold her to Brainiac 13, who took her to the far future and turned her into his avatar. She retuned to the present during the Imperiex War and was saved by Superman. Lex then purged all traces of Brainiac from her and sent her to live with Leticia. Lena is disappointed that that is all Lex wrote about her, but Leticia comes in and comforts her. She tells Lena that she is more than the words Lex wrote and says that Lex is afraid of her, because she represents the worst thing he ever did and is smarter than him. Leticia asks Lena why she choses to work at Lex's company but Lena replies that it is Superman's company now, and Leticia realizes she is working at Supercorp to spite Lex.

Suddenly, an alarm sounds and Mercy Graves announces that Superman has disappeared and finding him is top priority. Lena runs after her to the command centre and they conference call with Lex at Stryker's. Lois runs in as they are working on finding Superman and suddenly Pharm and Graft break in to the tower. Mercy says that Superman needs to stay away, as he is suffering from Kryptonite poisoning and their Kryptonite weapons could kill him if he faces them before he fully recovers. Suddenly the wall is blasted open by an explosion and a figure in a Warsuit storms in. They quickly bind Mercy and Lois in nets, and try to capture Lena as well but she dodges. She assumes the figure is Lex but he is still in Strykers. The figure removes her helmet to reveal that she is Leticia. Lena asks what she is doing and Leticia says she is taking back what is hers: she started LexCorp and then Lex stole it from her and imprisoned her on an island with Lena. She starts destroying the room, saying she would have been better off if Lex had killed her, and Lena flees while she is distracted.

She runs around the corner and sees Superman, just returned from the past. She yells at him to run, but the Revenge Squad throw a Kryptonite gas grenade that brings Superman down. The Chained ties Superman up and Graft asks him to join them in destroying Lex, but Superman refuses. Graft tells him that the rare Kryptonite in his Klaw is synthetic, and he deliberately engineered the Red Kryptonite to induce extreme anger in Superman. Enraged, Superman flies to Stryker's and drags Luthor back to Supercorp. Lena begs Superman not to kill her father, but Leticia tells her that Lex deserves it.

Leticia flies off to deal with the next step in their plans and Lena runs to Superman to try and stop him. However, Lex tells Graft that he has made a major error: he assumed that Superman was only angry at him. Superman viciously attacks the Revenge Squad and easily defeats them, smashing the Chained through the floor. Lex tells Lena to run before Superman comes back but Lena says they need to help him. Superman flies back up through the hole in the floor and grabs Lex, but Lex stabs him with Graft's shard of Green Kryptonite. As Lex expects it counters the effects of the Red Kryptonite, but also fatally poisons Superman.

Lex says he can save Superman, but Graft says it is too late: the plan was never just to kill Lex, it was to destroy his legacy. Outside, Leticia releases a cloud of Kryptonite gas across the city. Although Kryptonite is usually only dangerous to humans after long-term exposure, the Kryptonite Leticia is releasing is a synthetic version which affects humans in the same way as Kryptonians. Lex admits that he developed it years ago when he first met Graft and Pharm.

Notes

  • This comic confirms that the events of Our Worlds at War are canon in the post-Flashpoint. The Imperiex War was previously implied to have happened in the Post-Flashpoint continuity during the Rebirth era after the amalgamation of the New Earth and Prime Earth timelines.[1]
    • Graft also implies that Lex Luthor was previously afflicted with cancer as a result of long-term Kryptonite exposure, just as he was in the New Earth continuity.
