Superman (Volume 6) #16 is an issue of the series Superman (Volume 6) with a cover date of September, 2024. It was published on July 17, 2024.
Synopsis for "Absolute Power: Magic is Real, Part One"
At the Fortress of Solitude, Mister Terrific and Doctor Mid-Nite struggle to save Superman's life as he bleeds out on the table. Meanwhile in Washington, D.C., the depowered Zatanna is cornered by two Bureau of Sovereignty soldiers in an alley. She fights them off with martial arts she learned from Batman, but many more soldiers run into the alley. Suddenly, she is rescued by Mercy Graves, piloting a Supercorp aircraft. Mercy takes Zatanna to the Fortress, where the few heroes she was able to save have gathered.
Booster Gold and Blue Beetle accuse Red Tornado of potentially being a threat and they almost come to blows, but Superman emerges from the operating room and calmly orders them to stand down, which they do instantly. Superman asks where Jon and Conner are but Mercy admits she was only able to save him. She apologises and starts crying, but Superman hugs her and says he knows she did her best.
Superman says they need an easier way to get people to the Fortress than Mercy picking them up, and Zatanna says that she may know a way: magical pathways known as the Dark Roads. With them they can not only save people, but also move undetected and take Waller on from the shadows. To be able to use them effectively they will need the Map of Mordru, and Zatanna says that Superman is the best placed to navigate the Roads as they respond to death, and Superman both come back from the dead and just almost died. They go to meet with Batman and Wonder Woman to put together a plan, and Mercy leaves to rescue more people. Clark asks her to try and find Lois.
In Metropolis Jimmy Olsen, the depowered Siobhan Smythe, Lena and Lex Luthor sneak into Supercorp. Lena hopes that coming back to the tower will bring back Lex's memories and he will be able to help them fight back, but it doesn't work. Lena accesses the tower's system in the hopes of sending out an encrypted distress call, but notices that one of the Warsuits is missing. A squad of Bureau soldiers lead by Peacemaker and Peacewrecker burst in and attack them, but they are brought down by a hail of energy blasts. The group see to their amazement that their rescuer is Lois, wearing a suit of power armour.
