Synopsis for "The Chained, Part One"

It has been two weeks since Lex Luthor was shanked in prison, and he has been in a coma since then. In that time, Superman has been trying to find out what is this "Project: Chained" mentioned by Dr. Pharm and Mr Graft. He asks Mercy Graves to look into it and she tells him that she could not find anything in Supercorp's files, but there are some files hidden behind Supercorp's security firewalls and they can only be opened by Superman or Lex. Reluctantly, Superman asks LL-01 to unlock the files and he tells Superman that Project: Chained was a collaboration between Lex and the founder of Stryker's Island to create the ultimate prison cell, a cell that could hold someone in complete solitary confinement and sensory deprivation whilst keeping them alive. Only one cell was ever built, buried under four hundred feet of rock below Stryker's Island. Superman asks if the prison was ever used to hold anyone and LL-01 says the prisoner is still alive and in the cell. Mercy warns Superman that Luthor usually just killed anyone he saw as a threat, and that if he locked someone in a cell for decades that person must be too dangerous to be free. Nevertheless, Superman decides to free the prisoner.

Superman, Mercy and a group of Supercorp security fly to Stryker's where Superman tunnels down into the rock and reaches the cell. It recognises him as the head of Supercorp and unlocks. Inside, they find a man heavily restrained and with a sensory deprivation helmet on. He frees the prisoner, while in the prison above, Luthor begins to wake up. When Superman and Mercy mention Lex, the man is enraged and rises up into the air and attacks them, demonstrating immense psychokinetic powers. Superman says they don't need to fight and he just wants to talk, but the man doesn't listen, binds Superman in his chains and flies away. Superman is unable to break free and Mercy says that Luthor built the cell to use whoever was inside's powers against them, and only Lex can free him. The chained man floats over the city and says it that Metropolis must know the pain he has suffered, and in the prison hospital, Luthor snaps awake.
