This story is reprinted from Swamp Thing Giant (Volume 2) #5.

Phil warns that sooner or later the world as mankind knows it will end and only Swamp Thing can save it from its own destruction, but Alec berates them for murdering people. Phil informs him that he works at Sunderland Corporation but his offer of help is rebuffed. Swamp Thing wanders through the bayou, pondering whether he should let the human race destroy itself. At a Sunderland meeting, as Avery asks whether anyone has any good news following their disastrous conflict with Swamp Thing, Sally informs him that they had a breakthrough.

As Alec continues to ponder and states that there is no saving humanity, Phil ad his cult catches up to him. After being asked about considering their proposal for help, he states that he's decided to let the world destroy itself. Phil however informs him about Sunderland having developed self-harvesting crops through his DNA and to be used as slaves. Alec in anger decides to free them and uses more of his power to mount an assault. As a result, the US Air Force starts attacking him but he easily swats them aside.

After hitting a overpass which causes a child to nearly fall from it to the ground, Alec realizes what he is doing is wrong. He states that the future is worth saving for the children and rescues the child. Meanwhile at a Sunderland investor conference, Sally introduces the slaves Leif and Flora who can self-harvest food. Swamp Thing however suddenly shows up and locks everybody in the room, causing a panic. Sally tries to attack him with a herbicide gun, but ends up killing Leif instead.

While tying Sally in vines, Alec states that he didn't come there to kill but to talk with people and asks them to step away from ensuring their own doom by harming the planet. He offers them to come build a better world for the children with him, as children are a part of themselves worth saving.
