Synopsis for "Strategic Outcomes"
Military drones attack Swamp Thing after spotting him in the bayou, but he regenerates. The United States Army tries further tactics like using napalm and bioweapons, but all fail. Swamp Thing then flees to New Orleans and is attacked by American soldiers, who are unable to effectively engage him due to the presence of civilians. After being attacked with flamethrowers, he sets off the explosive and flamethrower cannisters in a military truck with his burning arm before escaping to Audubon Park.
Avery Sunderland meanwhile berates the American President, telling him to keep him posted regarding the mission to take down Swamp Thing and decides to head to the Pentagon when events do not go as planned. General Pierce tells his junior officer to abandon protecting civilian lives and Swamp Thing is warned that a nuclear strike has been ordered on him. Where the missile hits depends on where he'll be after the next thirty minutes. Swamp Thing then travels to an uninhabited island in the Gulf of Mexico where he is nuked ,with low chance of survival.
The entire battle with Swamp Thing is a simulation however and when Avery arrives to meet Pierce, the latter informs him that the price of taking down Swamp Thing will be too high. As a result, Pierce doesn't want to get the army involved and hands him the results of the computer simulation regarding the outcomes of the battle with Swamp Thing. Avery reminds him that he donated a lot of money to the President, but Pierce states sarcastically that he should donate more but until then they won't fight Swamp Thing.

Synopsis for "Toys on Parade"
Swamp Thing while following the fifolet spirit out of curiosity, comes upon a bunch of discarded toys. Though confused, he takes them out so no creature chokes on them, but discovers them becoming animated and walking to a house. There he discovers a girl named Anna who states that they need to start their tea party before her feather discovers them, after which he'll get mad.
As the toys decide to attack Anna's abusive father, Swamp Thing enters her house and assures her that he's there to help, stating people with magical powers like her need protection for a time. Anna's father however barges in, angry due to her toys, and shoots Alec after seeing him. Anna uses her powers to have Swamp Thing attack her father in anger, declaring he won't be mean to her or her friends ever again.
As Anna's father stumbles, he punctures his breathing cylinder and his falling cigarette thus causes an explosion. While he is burnt badly, Swamp Thing rescues his daughter. The toys start attacking Anna's father and Swamp Thing takes her away from her home, telling her not to look back. The two then see the fifolet spirit which Anna believes to be a shooting star, but is confused stating that they should fall down. Swamp Thing responds that they don't do so here in the bayou.

Synopsis for "Playing with Fire!"
This story is reprinted from Zatanna (Volume 2) #4.
Zatanna is fighting the Royal Flush Gang in Las Vegas after the Royal Flush Gang had stolen the prize money from a poker tournament. After some difficulties, Zatanna manages to defeat them. As she takes the stolen money and leaves, three old ladies remark that Mammon is interested in Zatanna.
Zatanna returns the money to Sonny Raymond, the Paradise Casino's owner. Raymond says that his father, Benjamin, hired Zatanna's father to be the main attraction on his first casino. He invites Zatanna for a drink and she agrees.
After Zatanna leaves Raymond's office, Raymond talks with a picture, which suddenly becomes alive, revealing itself to be a demon in disguise. The demon identifies Raymond as Benjamin Raymond, revealing that Raymond had been masquerading as his own son and the demon had been extending Raymond's life. They both express interest in Zatanna, and Raymond says that he let the Royal Flush Gang steal from his casino so that they could test Zatanna's powers.
At the theater, Zatanna begins practicing for her show, and some of her friends talk to her about her date, but she is unconcerned. Then, Zatanna begins her show.
Hours later, the show ends and Zatanna returns to her hotel. She finds that his cousin Zachary is throwing a party in her room. Zatanna transforms some girls into pidgeons and everyone else runs away scared. When his cousin comes in, he finds an infuriated Zatanna. He explains that he wanted to throw a welcome party for her, but things got out of hand. Zatanna transforms the birds back into humans.
Then, a girl in a towel comes into her room, and Zatanna dresses her, telling her and Zach to leave. As Zach and the girl get into the elevator, the three old ladies reach Zatanna's floor and transform into fire demons. They break into Zatanna's room and attack her.
Zatanna tries to use water and wind against them, but they are immune to earthly materials. The demons then set Zatanna's tongue on fire.
