Swamp Thing (Volume 2) #78 is an issue of the series Swamp Thing (Volume 2) with a cover date of November, 1988.

Synopsis for "To Sow One's Seed in the Wind"

Swamp Thing thinks back on all of the empty husks left behind on Earth whenever he retreats into his astral form in The Green. Tracing back to the first one, frozen somewhere in a Sunderland Corporation building, all the way to this next one, as he slips from his body into the flora within his wife Abby's body, and then moving up to her brain to release her own astral form into the green while he keeps watch over her body.

Once Abby has left, Swamp Thing enters Abby's bloodstream and travels down to her her womb. He observes the early form of his child, lovingly. He knows that in just three weeks, its sex will be revealed.

Meanwhile, Abby travels through The Green into the Spirit World, where she encounters the spirit of Alec Holland in heaven. Abby greets him happily, explaining that her life has become so hectic that she wanted to experience the love of Heaven one last time. Abby reveals that she is now pregnant, and that the journey might be too hard on the baby in the future. Alec is very happy for her, and helps to comfort her feelings of fear by showing her that he feels the same. His wife Linda is about to be reborn on earth. Interestingly, Linda has come back as a boy. Seeing this, Abby decides that she can return to her own body, and manage motherhood.

Abby regains consciousness with the Swamp Thing lying beside her, but she is disturbed to find that he is no longer in a masculine form, but rather he appears female, with breasts and what appears to be a pregnant belly. Swamp Thing believes that the change is the result of his interaction with Abby's pregnant body. With growing concern, they realize that something is moving within his belly. Suddenly, he goes into labour, and begins giving birth. Strangely, he realizes that the baby he is birthing is himself. A large red bulb bursts forth from his belly, and as the petals unfold, a small baby Swamp Thing.

Ultimately, he must choose between staying an adult, and staying as Abby's son. He chooses the latter, embracing her. Even so, in her arms, he begins to grow larger, back into his former self, reconfirming his status as her friend, her lover, and her soulmate forever. Behind him lay the husks of the past, in the present is the love between himself and Abby, and their future grows within her womb.
