Synopsis for "Leaves In A Tempest"

Somewhere, the plant-creature called Matango arrives on Earth after having spent centuries trapped within Nergal's demonic garden in Hell.

In the Louisiana swamp, Abby Holland presses the Swamp Thing to finally work on putting their daughter Tefé back into her physical body. Unfortunately, he can do nothing. It must be Tefé who remakes her flesh body. He has no control over flesh. He decides that ultimately, he and Tefé must ask John Constantine for help. Before leaving, he discovers a leaf which is not connected to The Green, and his suspicions are aroused.

Matango recalls how he had sold his soul to Nergal in exchange for power. His soul spent centuries trapped in Nergal's garden, until Nergal's city was destroyed, and he found himself on Earth, alone.

Swamp Thing finds Constantine in a church. John suggests (after some coercion) that someone with intimate knowledge of human biology might be better suited to helping Tefé, since Swamp Thing's memories of being Alec Holland would extend only to the realm of botany. He offers his friend Brenda, a coroner, who will help, and be in Houma within 24 hours.

Matango gathers together others like him in communion. He becomes their spiritual leader.

Swamp Thing returns to his home, where Abby is waiting with a Shaman of Sarga. He suggests that he can be of help in getting Tefé back into her body, but ultimately, it will be up to the girl to do it herself. The problem appears to be that Tefé doesn't know how to talk yet. The Shaman suggests that he knows of a fount of water which can imbue the drinker with the ability to understand many languages. Swamp Thing has heard nothing of this from the Parliament of Trees, but decides to investigate. The Shaman warns, once again, of a coming evil power, which threatens to take Tefé away.
