• Writer Kurt Busiek stated that Swashbuckler was actually a character who had already been seen in the DC Universe under another name. At one point, Swashbuckler displays a scar encircling his neck, which has caused some to wonder if he is, in fact, Busiek's earlier creation, Manhunter Kirk DePaul, who had previously been killed by decapitation.
