Sweet Tooth #2 is an issue of the series Sweet Tooth (Volume 1) with a cover date of December, 2009.
Synopsis for "Out of the Deep Woods (Part Two)"
Jepperd asks the hunter attacking Gus if they are alone. The hunter pleas that they can share Gus. Jepperd smashes the man's face against a tree. He turns to discover Gus has taken off.
He tracks Gus to his home. He tells him he won't hurt him and asks how old he is. When Gus tells him nine, he tells him he can't be right. The sickness started seven years ago and hybrids didn't exist before that. Jepperd asks when his parents were taken by the affliction. Gus replies he's been on his own since winter and he's never left the woods.
Jepperd tries to tell him to get ready to head to the "preserve", a safe haven for half-breeds. Gus refuses to trust him and decides to stay put. As Jepperd takes off, Gus contemplates being alone. He breaks down on his decision and runs after Jepperd to take him with him.
That night they pull over to pitch a tent for the night. Jepperd roasts meat on the camp fire. Gus tells him he doesn't eat things that used to be alive. Jepperd hands him a candy bar and nicknames him "Sweet Tooth" as he will only be able to eat candy. Jepperd tells him his kind, humans, are dying. Some people want hybrids because they believe hybrids are immune to the disease. By eating hybrids, it will improve their resistance to the disease as well. Suddenly, they are attacked by rogue masked men. Jepperd beats them but loses a finger in the struggle. He passes out from blood loss and shock.
