Swordfish was an immortal pirate and the partner of the Barracuda.
History
Swordfish was once a sailor from the 18th Century, whose ship was attacked by pirates and he was taken prisoner. While in the pirate ship, Swordfish met Abigail Kent, a former noble woman turned adventurer. Abigail and him escaped from the pirates, but ended up being captured by natives of the island of Costa Rica, where they performed ancient voodoo magic on them, which left magic symbols in their hands. Upon touching their hands they transformed and acquired great powers, becoming Swordfish and Barracuda.[1]
For a few years, their combined powers were used to destroy pirates until they were challenged by the powerful being called X'ult, who wanted to force Barracuda to marry him. During a confrontation, X'ult used his powers to freeze Swordfish and Barracuda, but he ended up captured inside his time prison as well. They were found during the 20th Century on the Caribbean Sea and many nations wanted to claim the discovery for their own. Swordfish was taken by the Swedish Navy and he was rescued by Batman and Null. They worked together to free Barracuda from the Russians, who had captured her while she was still frozen in time. Unfortunately, X'ult was also freed and Swordfish's transformation ended as the villain appeared to claim Barracuda.[1]
When X'ult had released Barracuda and made her his slave, Swordfish worked together with Batman, Superman and Null to challenge X'ult. In his efforts, he used his own tattoo to release Barracuda from X'ult's possession and the three of them were returned in time to the 18th Century after Superman created a time vortex to get rid of X'ult. Although the confrontation between Swordfish, Barracuda and X'ult continued in the past, the outcome remains undisclosed.[2]
