  • Tales of Ghost Castle is published on a bi-monthly shipping schedule.
  • The introductory story, Tales of Ghost Castle, acts as a framing piece for the stories that follow after it.
  • This is the first appearance of Lucien, librarian and storyteller. Lucien will later become a supporting cast member in Sandman (Volume 2). He appears next in Tales of Ghost Castle #2 following the third story in this issue.

In 1989, writer Neil Gaiman gathered together the various anthology host characters and integrated them into the DC/Vertigo continuity beginning with Sandman (Volume 2) #1.
  • This issue contains a one-page humor strip by Sergio Aragonés entitled Ghost Cackles.
