DCU page move[]

Alright, I can't take this anymore, it's too confusing. We should really consider moving the "DCU" page to "DC Cinematic Universe", as it's much less confusing for both fans and newcomers to the wiki. Plus, it's never technically been officially stated what "DCU" stands for, so this can still work. -- MattTheNerd42 (talk) 20:12, 28 July 2023 (UTC)

If no one at DC has said what "DCU" stands for, we can't just make something up. We just have to treat it like "DCU" is the name and doesn't mean anything in particular. - SuperFan24K (talk) 22:29, 28 July 2023 (UTC)
Just using DCU as a distinguisher should be fine, until its own designation is given as part of its own multiverse, or a completely different name for the shared universe is given altogether. I do think we should avoid using "DC Universe", like "Kal-El (DC Universe)", since it's too vague in terms of which DC universe it's referring to (This reality or Prime Earth?), making some people perhaps assume this is the main version of the character. Meanwhile, I've only really heard DCU refer to this shared universe, and never the main comics one(s), so it should be fine. - KalKent (Anton) (Earth-1218) (talk) 21:09, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

Gunn confirms nothing is DCU canon until Creature Commandos[]

https://x.com/FlashFilmNews/status/1707099890575085801 So, apparently we jumped the gun a bit by adding Pre-Creature commandos stuff under DCU.

His own worlds: "Nothing is canon until Creature Commandos next year - a sort of aperitif to the DCU - & then a deeper dive into the universe with Superman: Legacy after that. It's a very human drive to want to understand everything all the time, but I think its okay to be confused on what's happening in the DCU since no one has seen anything from the DCU yet. And, yes, some actors will be playing characters they've played in other stories & some plot points might be consistent with plot points from the dozens of films, shows & animated projects that have come from DC in the past. But nothing is canon until CC and Legacy."

Blue Beetle and, when it releases, Aquaman 2 stuff, should be moved to the DCEU then, I'd imagine? JDMA12 (talk) 23:13, 27 September 2023 (UTC)

Seconded. Gunn's statements make it clear. Creature Commandos is the start of the DCU. DrJohnnyDiablo (talk) 18:04, 28 September 2023 (UTC)
Can someone do the merging I'll do the bot work and moving after. --Tupka217 (talk) 18:07, 1 October 2023 (UTC)

Naming standards[]

Hey, I think that if we are calling this reality "DCU" that the characters should be (DCU), not (DC Universe). DrJohnnyDiablo (talk). 01:10, 8 May 2024 (UTC)

I agree. Although with variant covers and sneak peeks we've gotten from promos, the images link to characters like "Bride (DC Universe)", instead of "Bride (DCU)". Given how close we are to the debut of this reality, this needs to be settled before the show's premiere, so there's no confusion and disagreements once editing and page creations start.

DCEU stragglers' pages[]

I know we've talked about this before, but as we get closer to Peacemaker Season 2, I wanted to throw this out there again, as well as refine the idea, so please don't just dismiss this suggestion out of pocket.

We know that most of the events of The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker S1 and Blue Beetle have been carried over from the DCEU to the DCU, and that the characters from these projects have been carried over as well. And as it stands, it looks like our way to deal with that would be to just create duplicate pages for these straggler characters, which to me seems unnecessary, illogical, and kind of confusing. Because a lot of them aren't just similar, they are the EXACT SAME CHARACTERS, which Gunn has confirmed in regards to both Creature Commandos S1 and Peacemaker S2 (see these interviews if you still need proof).

The solution I initially proposed was to move every single character in these carry-over projects to DCU pages, but the issue is that that doesn't really work for characters who appeared in DCEU projects outside of the ones being carried over. And more to the point, those carry-over projects still started as part of the DCEU. So I've gone ahead and established some more specific criteria for pages I feel should be listed as DCU:

  1. Character first appears in The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker Season 1 and/or Blue Beetle; no other DCEU projects
  2. Character also appears in a project that was always intended to be part of the DCU, such as Creature Commandos, Superman or Peacemaker Season 2

So characters who only appeared in The Suicide Squad and haven't appeared since, such as Bloodsport, Harley Quinn or T.D.K., can just stay as DCEU pages, and characters who appeared in the carry-over projects as well as other DCEU projects, such as Amanda Waller, John Economos and Emilia Harcourt, should have separate pages for their DCEU and DCU counterparts. And that leaves us with a much shorter list of pages to move to DCU pages:

Now obviously this list could change when other characters from The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker S1 and Blue Beetle make appearances in the DCU proper, and it might be worth talking further about Harcourt and Economos, given how small their roles in Black Adam and Shazam! 2 are, but for now I think this is a solid list of pages to move. We should also probably list the universes in these stragglers' infoboxes as "DC Extended Universe; DCU" to maintain as much consistency as we can with this whole mess. Anyway yeah, that's my proposal. -- MattTheNerd42 (talk) 14:02, 11 May 2025 (UTC)

I completely forgot about Eagly! Man, James Gunn's never gonna forgive me when he finds out. But yeah, we should move his page too (Eagly (DCU)). -- MattTheNerd42 (talk) 16:50, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
No. I don't think those pages from The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker Season 1 should move. When they appear in the DCU, they should get new pages that notes that their backstories are similar to their DCEU counterparts. SeanWheeler (talk) 03:17, 8 June 2025 (UTC)
As I said, these are the exact same characters. At that point, we would just have unnecessary duplicate pages with one set having more information than the other. Besides, we've done the same thing with the Earth-One and Earth-Two characters who had basically nothing about them changed Post-Crisis. It doesn't make sense to have separate pages there, and it makes just as little sense here. MattTheNerd42 (talk) 15:55, 11 June 2025 (UTC)
Honestly, if we look at James Gunn's interviews listed in [this links], Peacemaker Season 1 is basically canon in the DCU, except for the Justice League cameo. Even James Gunn admitted this.
However, the case of The Suicide Squad is a different matter. To begin with, The Suicide Squad is imperfect memory, and except for scenes that appear in mentions or flashbacks, it is difficult to view it as part of the DCU
Furthermore, unlike his DCEU counterpart, the DCU's Peacemaker has never met the Justice League. Also, from issue #2 of Vigilante/Eagly comics onwards, there are references to the DCEU continuity, and I believe that the pages of those comics need to be revised.
I think all characters that appeared in The Suicide Squad or other DCEU works need to be split into separate articles.
For example, in the case of DCU Peacemaker, his first chronological appearance was in Peacemaker Season 1 Episode 1, not The Suicide Squad. In the DCU, Peacemaker (TV Series) Episode: A Whole New Whirled should be considered his first chronological appearance.
I think it is inappropriate to compare them with Earth-2 characters, as they are essentially the same characters who were displaced when the universes merged, and there are official references to this.
However, I believe that August Smith (DCU) is an exception and does not need to be split into separate articles, as there is essentially no difference between his storylines.
I think he can be treated in the same way as William Stryker Sr. (Earth-10005).

James Gunn has said that there's a podcast coming out soon that's intended to further clarify this stuff, so I do think this is a conversation worth having, but maybe after that's released. -- MattTheNerd42 (talk) 12:21, 17 July 2025 (UTC)

Is Mister Miracle in the DCU?[]

I could've sworn it was a Elseworlds project - Nocty17
