Appearances[]
Wouldn't his first appearances be in Animal Man? Kyletheobald (talk) 13:23, August 30, 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, it's the same. I think the conceit was that since Morrison added himself into continuity in Animal Man, Ostrander could use him and kill him off in Suicide Squad (Tec15 (talk) 16:57, August 30, 2013 (UTC))
- The Writer even makes reference to someone else writing him now and not being in control. I'd need to check the Animal Man issues to be sure. --Tupka217 17:01, August 30, 2013 (UTC)
- Speaking of, I think Dwayne McDuffie also has appearances as himself in some comics. We should give him a similar treatment, if the context is right. - Hatebunny (talk) 17:17, August 30, 2013 (UTC)
Aren't there also a number of bronze age appearances by a number of real writers? (Tec15 (talk) 17:28, August 30, 2013 (UTC))
- They're just authors making an appearance. I also remember a Golden Age issue where the Newsboy Legion raids the offices. They're not (Earth-Two/One/Prime/Whatevs) versions, they're authors. But Grant Morrison was retconned into an actual character, those others weren't. --Tupka217 10:07, September 8, 2013 (UTC)
This is great. That is all. Thermoxin (talk) 18:37, October 10, 2019 (UTC)
Non-Binary[]
Figured I might as well bring this up before someone else does - how do we treat this page now that Morrison has come out as non-binary? I've always kinda felt that "Character pages are for chronicling the fictional representations of people, not the people themselves", and therefore the fictional Grant Morrison / Writer only ever identified as male. But, I could see the counterargument being made, as Grant themself mentioned in the interview where they came out, that they've always been non-binary but lacked the language to say it.
I think this is a uniquely complicated situation, but would like to draw the line in the sand now with a discussion. --- Haroldrocks talk 00:05, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
- Shouldn't he be treated as what he wrote himself as and the editorial allowed? Unless DC decides to change it in future collections or reprints, I don't think there's a point to changing his gender. MatteJohnny (talk) 00:21, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
- I added a Note in the meantime to at least address any possible confusion. Again, my thinking is that this isn't actually Grant Morrison, but Morrison's fictional interpretation of Morrison in 1990.
- And just a polite reminder to please respect Morrison's pronouns when discussing them. --- Haroldrocks talk 20:28, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
