The Vigilante villain, Keyhole Carter, was the first to use the name "The Shade," in Dec.41 and Jan.42. The Flash villain was the second, in Sep.42. Merging this page into Shade (Earth Two) will either conflate two different characters or destroy one of them. So it shouldn't be done. What's needed is an outcome where Keyhole and Shade each end up with their own character page, preferably with "Shade II" being attached to the Flash villain. Right. I understand the difference between I and II. The Shade (Earth-Two) page features the Vigilante villain as does the The Shade I (Earth-Two) page. Therefore, they are duplicate pages and should be merged. Said merger would have no effect on the Flash villain's page. DrJohnnyDiablo (talk) 12:41, July 26, 2015 (UTC)

And Shade II should be merged into the main Dickie Swift page. --Tupka217 12:45, July 26, 2015 (UTC)
No. No no no. Shade II was an Earth-Two character, who relied on gadgetry to create darkness, and wasn't shown to be British, or immortal, and had no intrinsic darkness-casting super powers. Shade III is a New Earth Character, retconned into existence, to replace the old Flash villain, who presumably winked out of existence at COIE time.
As for the rest of it, DrJohnny is right and I'm wrong. Stoop Davy Dave (talk) 12:49, July 26, 2015 (UTC)
At the moment, the two characters share a page. Retcons happen. Splits require additional discussion. --Tupka217 12:52, July 26, 2015 (UTC)
The two characters are not the same, as described above. If you've been using (Earth-Two) to designate characters who stopped appearing after COIE, and (New Earth) to designate characters who have continued on, then it's consistent and appropriate to split them, and to apply the Multicon (sp?) template to poor old Shade II.
