The identity of Mr. Keeper's helper[]

The current edition of the article's text claims that it was Saint Peter, which was probably the original intent. However, World's Finest #280 (June 1982) retconned the wizard Shazam into that role - a very elegant fit to the art of Hit Comics #25, I might add.

If I may, the best solution is probably to simply accept the uncertainty and say something like "...a helper who has been variously understood to be Saint Peter or the wizard Shazam...."

Of course, a similar adjustement is appropriate for the Christopher Freeman (Earth-S) article as well.

That's not the best solution, as it's out-of-universe. --Tupka217 12:49, May 5, 2015 (UTC)
I will not pretend that I either agree or know what you mean exactly, but what do you see as a better solution? Implying that Shazam is both Jebediah and St. Peter somehow, perhaps? Assuming that Shazam lied for whatever reason? That he is mistaken about his own past? That the WF #280 history was some sort of delusion? Deciding in a fanfic-like way that Keeper and Kit actually always understood that to be Shazam and just never mentioned it? All of those options are rather ugly and lead to loads of problems. Out of universe and in universe are pretty standard terms in writing about fictional franchises, and especially so on wikis. History texts should be in-universe, meaning they're written as if you're a chronicler existing at the last point in time in the DC multiverse. Out of universe means you treat it as fictional - "has been understood" clearly points to a viewpoint from outside the DCU. Notes sections can go out-of-universe. I'll make it a note. --Tupka217 14:50, May 5, 2015 (UTC)
Hit Comics #25 currently lists the character talking to Mr. Keeper as Saint Peter, despite linking to Earth-S's Shazam. Just pointing that out. LuisDantas (talk) 06:49, November 7, 2017 (UTC)
I took a swing at revising the text. What'cha think? DrJohnnyDiablo (talk) 14:17, November 7, 2017 (UTC)
Why not just leave St. Peter unlinked in the write up and explain in the notes that in the original comics St. Peter was himself and in the later "Kid Eternity is an Earth-S character" retcon St. Peter is to be understood as Shazam? --Khajidha (talk) 15:48, November 7, 2017 (UTC)
At least it's sourced in the bio. But the link to World's Finest #280 should be made wherever it applies. --Tupka217 16:27, November 7, 2017 (UTC)
