Policy Complications

At this point, the Magic Crystal of History series is an actual adventure series--the historical vignettes won't come until later. Is it worth cataloging the series?Jim in NYC (talk) 19:49, July 29, 2014 (UTC)

Any information about the earliest DC comics is appreciated. There are very few data extant - so, yes, put them in. Also, if the leaked rumors about Morrison´s Multiversity finale bear any semblance to the facts (Jack Woods being explicitly mentioned), these stories will be included into the DC canon. --Lucien61 (talk) 20:21, July 29, 2014 (UTC)
Apparently not, since all the synopses I added have been deleted.Jim in NYC (talk) 16:08, August 20, 2014 (UTC)
That might not be a "canonicity" issue so much as a "plagiarism" thing. The opening sentences of those synopses are identical to the ones appearing in "Mike's Amazing World." Follow-on sentences look original, and it might be possible to salvage the synopses with some judicious rephrasing. Or not, I can't say. Stoop Davy Dave (talk) 10:59, October 26, 2015 (UTC)
OK, I'll try it again.Jim in NYC (talk) 18:08, January 8, 2016 (UTC)
'Tis done. Added synopses for Jack Woods, Magic Crystal of History, Wing Brady, Ivanhoe, Buckskin Jim, and 2023 Super Police, a character list for 2023 Super Police, and a couple of supporting characters for Jack Woods, Wing Brady, and Ivanhoe. Someone (possibly me, possibly someone else) should create a page for Rex Carson, the main character of 2023 Super Police.Jim in NYC (talk) 21:32, January 8, 2016 (UTC)

Technical Issue

The edit page lists only 20 stories, but the display page TOC has 34. This is the opposite problem from the one in New Fun #2, where the edit page has MORE stories than the display page. Whuh? How? Huh? Stoop Davy Dave (talk) 10:59, October 26, 2015 (UTC)

Missing Stories (Maybe?)

This picture (https://i.imgur.com/OswoptQ.png) is taken directly from New Fun Comics #1, and, if you look under the "In This Issue of New FUN" column, shows 29 indexes for (I'm assuming) 32 pages. It looks like we are missing plenty of stories as well as have plenty of storys that do not appear in the story(?). The Oswald the Rabbit story isnt mentioned there, but I see it in the pages I have. I only have 14 pages though (Who have been badly photographed or have been photographed with papers covering them). So do with that what you will. N'ileghi (talk) 06:23, August 12, 2016 (UTC)N'ileghi

Nevermind! Using something called research, I see that I was wrong about the missing storys.

Little by Little...

Just recently found the Barry O'Neill and Sandra pages for this issue. Will add synopses for both.Jim in NYC (talk) 17:46, September 21, 2016 (UTC)

2023 Super Police

Making edits to the 2023 material. The hero's name is Rex Cosmos, not Carson, as I originally thought--whoever edited the synopsis missed one. The Professor and Joan's last name, however, is indeed *Shanley*, not Stanley.Jim in NYC (talk) 16:44, October 10, 2016 (UTC)

Eureka! I have found it! Shanley's assistant (the man who telephones Joan in this issue) has a last name: Drut (checked and made sure that that was a legitimate last name in the 1930s). I'm adding him to the character list in #1, #2, and #5 (the only three issues that I've verified his appearance).Jim in NYC (talk) 19:47, March 21, 2017 (UTC)

DC is reprinting this in a hardcover

Coming out in 2020. https://www.bleedingcool.com/2019/05/27/dc-comics-to-republish-their-first-comic-new-fun-comics-1-in-hardcover-for-85th-anniversary/Jim in NYC (talk) 03:55, June 12, 2019 (UTC)

Story order

I just read the Famous First Editions version of this and the stories are not presented in the order we list them. It is supposed to be faithfully reprinted in its entirety so we should be able to trust their order. Is it worth re-ordering then? We will also have to adjust them on the reprints as well if we do that. Kyletheobald (talk) 03:48, May 14, 2020 (UTC)

I don't have the FFE version and can't afford it, but if you could list the story titles in the right sequence, and post it here on the Talk page, I'll be happy to do the edit to renumber them accordingly. Not quick, but happy. Reprints too. It won't happen before this weekend, tho. Stoop Davy Dave (talk) 12:35, May 14, 2020 (UTC)
I'll post them after work tonight. Kyletheobald (talk) 16:30, May 14, 2020 (UTC)

Excellent, thank you! I've renumbered these stories, and renumbered the StoryGrabs and AppearanceGrabs in Big Book of Fun Comics #1. Pretty sure none of these were reprinted anywhere else, but I could be wrong. Am I? Stoop Davy Dave (talk) 22:37, May 15, 2020 (UTC)
The only other place I'm aware of is Famous First Edition #C-63. Kyletheobald (talk) 22:59, May 15, 2020 (UTC)
Kyle, do you want to "fill in the blanks" for the "missing" series (like Jack Andrews, After School, etc.)? I was going to, but if you'd rather do it, I'll gladly step aside.Jim in NYC (talk) 05:27, June 7, 2020 (UTC)
Please go ahead. I'm not familiar with most of these characters and if they weren't named until later issues, I'd have no idea who they were. Kyletheobald (talk) 13:40, June 7, 2020 (UTC)
Will do.Jim in NYC (talk) 14:35, June 7, 2020 (UTC)
Done. Stoop Davy Dave (talk) 00:01, May 16, 2020 (UTC)
Wait. U got any idea who wrote or drew that Tom Mix advert/comic on the back page? I sure don't. Stoop Davy Dave (talk) 00:03, May 16, 2020 (UTC)
Nope. Kyletheobald (talk) 03:58, May 16, 2020 (UTC)

Don Drake

Can someone fix the link to the Don Drake story in NF2? I've reached the limits of my skills.Jim in NYC (talk) 23:29, June 10, 2020 (UTC)

Done. I think. You probably should test it. Stoop Davy Dave (talk) 00:51, June 11, 2020 (UTC)
Yep, the link works, thanks!Jim in NYC (talk) 19:18, June 11, 2020 (UTC)

The last of the earliest unchronicled features

Oswald, Scrub, Judge, Jigger, Ur, Tad, Bubby, Pelion

1/ Oswald the Rabbit, provenance uncertain: Disney created Oswald (?) but who owned it in 1936 and who owns it now? Never mind that; is it okay to make a character page for Oswald? If so, would one treat is like a non-DC franchise, like Tom Mix or Captain Midnight, yes, no?
2/ Scrub Hardy still lacks a character page. Should I make one?
3/ Judge Perkins, same question?
4/ Jigger & Ginger, same question?
5/ Ur, in Caveman Capers, same question?
6/ Tad, in Fun Films, same question?
7/ Bubby and Beevil, same question?
8/ Pelion and Ossa, same question?
All of these features return in issue #2, and some keep coming back after that.
Huck Foley (talk) 15:43, 21 March 2021 (UTC)

Seems like Disney owns Oswald still. I'm not entirely for giving him a page for the handful of appearances he made but he would definitely get a franchise page if he got one. The other characters are of dubious continuity and may not be Earth-Two. Is there any reason to give them a page beyond just having one? I would think they could continue to be listed in plain text on the issue pages and that filling out their issue synopses should be fine. Kyletheobald (talk) 17:09, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
The Oswald strips are almost always accompanied by the phrase "by arrangement with Universal Pictures" so Universal must have owned the character at the time. I don't see anything wrong with the characters having their own page, but I don't see much benefit either. The only exception for me is Pelion and Ossa, their stories lasted until issue #20, that is almost three times longer than the second longest (i.e. Oswald), and ten times longer than the shortest ones. I think those two are way more prominent than the other characters and might need a character page. Danter7 (talk) 19:28, 21 March 2021 (UTC)

True. The only claim to prominence most of these remaining characters have is that of appearing in the first comic book ever published. But that's not nothing. Huck Foley (talk) 19:49, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
