- There is a talking tiger according to White Indian legend -- I had hoped to bring it back!
- — Commander Byrton src
In the early 1940s, Professor Byrton adopted the guise of a Talking Tiger and attempted an elaborate fraud. He was defeated by Doll Man.
History
Wealthy explorer Commander Byrton was secretly heavily in debt, because Axis submarines had destroyed the cargo from an earlier expedition. To recover his losses, he attempted to sell some specimens from his latest expedition at wildly inflated prices, by generating sensational news about them, and to that end, he disguised himself as a Talking Tiger and either attempted to murder his own zookeeper or convincingly faked the attempt.
Unfortunately for Byrton, the guests at his estate that weekend included Darrel Dane, and in a short series of scuffles, Doll Man exposed Byrton's ill-conceived scheme. Byrton however served no prison time, but instead received a suspended sentence, and served aboard PT Boats in the U.S. Navy for the duration of World War II.
