Quote1 In space, we have a name for death. They say he moves like lightning...that he is unstoppable. That's why I took his name as my own. But that was when I was a racer. Before someone killed me... Before I tried to make it to Warworld. Before I swore to have my revenge. That was when I thought I was invincible... Now I know I am. Quote2

Tanda is the Black Racer, the reclusive avatar of death.

Tanda was once a mech pilot, competing in dangerous races and competitions, where she earned the title "Black Racer", because, like the true Racer, she could not be stopped.[1] She theorized later that this title is what made the avatar of death notice her, and save her from a fiery crash by granting her his powers of resurrection.[2] As she grew to understand her new abilities, the dangerous, slave-driving Warworld was wreaking havoc on the universe. Tanda sought to free the inhabitants from the tyrannical thumb of Mongul, so she abused her abilities of resurrection to get deeper and deeper into the prison planet, gaining a deeper connection to her powers as she did so.[1][2]

A thousand years later, in the 31st Century, Tanda had truly embraced her role as the Black Racer. Due to the Racer's connection to the New Gods, this put her under the command of their new leader, Pyrrhos. Pyrrhos used Tanda as an assassin against the House of El, until she was stopped by Alura-El.[3]
