Every culture tells nightmare stories of a bogeyman to scare children. The gods have Tartarus. 
Tartarus was the first God of Hell.[2]
History
As one of the primordial deities of the Greek pantheon that preceded the Gods of Olympus, Tartarus was kept in prison for ages in the place of Hades that was named after him, the Pit of Tartarus.[2]
However, when the Justice League needed to invade the Gates of Tartarus in the heart of Themyscira to free Jim Corrigan's soul and thus appease the fury of the Spectre, the giant god saw this moment as an opportunity to break free from his prison.[2]
Typhon is regarded as his son, begotten by Gaia.[1]
