Tatsu Yamashiro is Katana, the sword-wielding protector of "The Outside", the bordering area outside of Gotham and beyond the control of The Magistrate. Her primary weapon is her sword, "The Soultaker", which is said to capture the souls of anyone killed by it.

History

After the Magistrate's rise to power, Gotham City became a police state and began hunting anyone wearing a mask. Tatsu took to protecting those fleeing the Magistrate and seeking refuge outside of Gotham.

Tatsu raids a suspicious location on The Outside where Kaliber was running illegal operations for the Magistrate. betrayed them. The cybernetic soldier tells Tatsu the Magistrate is really interested in cybernetic implants to make his forces more powerful: sooner than later, all the agents of the Magistrate will be enhanced cybernetically just like him. Tatsu and Kaliber start fighting: Kaliber gets the upper-hand, ready to deliver the final blow when Black Lighting comes to her aid. Upon seeing his lightning form, Tatsu recognized it must be some kind of dark magic that turn him into this.

• Bilingualism: Katana is fluent in her native language Japanese as well as English.
• Enhanced Agility: She can hit bullets fired by machine guns with the edge of her sword by moving only her arm without apparent effort.
• Martial Arts: Tatsu is a master martial artist. She is able to combat multiple enemies, fight metahumans and adapt to situations with ease.
  • Swordsmanship: As the master of the fabled Soultaker, Tatsu has been trained in the art of swordsmanship under various samurai sensei and is highly proficient with a katana.

• Jetpack (Formerly): Katana had a jetpack for traversing The Outside.

Weapons

• Soultaker: Forged in the 14th Century by Muramasa, The Soultaker and it's twin are said to be cursed and causes those who are evil to commit evil acts. The Soultaker takes the souls of those it kills, allowing whoever wields it to commune with those trapped inside the sword.
• Soultaker II: Acquired after the destruction of her original sword. Following the restoration of her original Soultaker, this sword was given to Duke Thomas.
