- This issue is a flashback that takes place before the new Brotherhood's first published appearance in New Teen Titans #14. Although it was published after Crisis on Infinite Earths, it is set in the Pre-Crisis continuity, including a visit to an alternate Earth.
- Tin's home dimension is identified as Earth-Eleven in Absolute Crisis on Infinite Earths.
- Tin is based on the Belgian comic book character Tintin. The Captain is Captain Haddock, the Professor is Professor Calculus, Halfwolf is Snowy and Milos is Rastapopoulos.
- Auguste Toulon is named after writer Jean-Marc Lofficier's hometown of Toulon, France.
