History

Tehrac and Bhutran went to war with one another during the first few weeks following the overthrow and imprisonment of Kalyan Nong Hoi in Kota Zamfir.

At a concealed bunker on the edge of the Chaitan Desert, Superman disrupted a Teraqui ICBM launch, of a kryptonite-powered missile, against Bhutran. Tehrac's supplier of missile technology was LexCorp. Superman flew to confront Luthor in Metropolis. A nuclear missile was launched, but Superman intercepted it and and rendered it harmless. He finally announced his intention to stop intervening but that he would be watching their behavior closely. Hostilities subsided.

Notes

  • Tehrac is first mentioned in Adventures of Superman #565, and first appears in Supermen of America #1.
  • In Supermen of America #1, Tehrac and Bhutran are both described by a television announcer as "Southeast Asian Countries," and both as bordering on the Chaitan Desert, but in the very next chapter of this serial, in Adventures of Superman #566 (on sale that same month) Tehrac is called a "Middle Eastern Country" . Bhutran was established in Superman (Volume 2) #97 as being in the Himalayas.
  • The Tehrac nationality is spelled as "Teraqui" persistently thru the first few appearances of Tehrac, so that's apparently the official spelling.
