History

Tenzil Kem first came to the attention of the Legion of Super-Heroes when he participated as a contestant in the Intergalactic Games on Olympus 12. When the games were disrupted by the appearance of the Fatal Five, Tenzil fought alongside other Legionnaires to stop them. At some undisclosed point in the future, he became a full-time member of the team under the name Matter-Eater Lad. When an alien conqueror from the 41st century named Imperiex freed the Fatal Five and the Legion of Super-Villains from imprisonment at Takron-Galtos, Matter-Eater Lad was one of many Legionnaires who stood ready to combat them. During the fight, he grabbed a hold of Emerald Empress' Emerald Eye and began to eat it. His body absorbed a massive overdose of mystical energy, driving him temporarily insane. The Legionnaires placed him in a medical facility where he lied in bed perpetually giggling aloud.

• This version of the character is exclusive to the continuity of the television series Legion of Super-Heroes and is an adaptation of Tenzil Kem/Matter-Eater Lad. The original character was created by Jerry Siegel and John Forte and first appeared in Adventure Comics #303.
• Matter-Eater Lad was voiced by Alexander Polinsky throughout the series.
