Tess Mercer

Tess Mercer, born Lutessa Lena Luthor, is the illegitimate daughter of Lionel Luthor and Pamela Jenkins in the Smallville TV Series. When she was young, Lionel brought Tess to Granny Goodness' Orphanage, where she was trained to become the leader of the Female Furies, but she tried to escape and Granny Goodness removed her memories of the orphanage and her birth parents.

Unaware that she was his half sister, Tess became became Lex Luthor's protégé and the acting CEO of LuthorCorp after he disappeared in the arctic. Trying to find him, Tess ended up moving to Metropolis, where she discovered Clark Kent's secret identity and also became the new CEO of the Daily Planet. After Lana Lang revealed to her that Lex had implanted an optic camera into her brain to spy on her, Tess gave up on him. She was also secretly an agent of the Checkmate organization, the former leader of the Injustice League, and a former love interest of Oliver Queen, who nicknamed her Mercy.

Tess eventually becomes an ally of the Watchtower Network and was fatally wounded by Lex while trying to protect Clark's secret identity, but a neurotoxin causes her consciousness to leave her body and enter Lex's brain. Eventually, the Justice League figured out a way to upload her consciousness into the Watchtower's computer system, where she built an android body for herself and became the Red Tornado. Tess Mercer was created by Todd Slavkin, Darren Swimmer, Brian Peterson, and Kelly Souders, first appearing in the Smallville episode Odyssey (2008)
