Black Adam is a former champion of Shazam and the archnemesis of Captain Marvel.
History
Origins
Teth-Adam was a prince of Kahndaq. In the 13th Century, the wizard Shazam chose him to serve him as his champion. He served as the protector "Mighty Adam" for many years, until he grew tired of helping people and decided to rule over them instead. Earning the name "Black Adam", he conquered Kahndaq until being trapped in an amulet by the wizard.[1]
An archeologist accidently freed him and he awoke in the 21st Century. Learning the wizard had chosen a new champion, Black Adam travelled to Fawcett City to attack the superhero Captain Marvel. Teth-Adam asserted that he was the true hero, but the Captain argued heroes don't act like this. Taken aback, Adam returned to Kahndaq in hopes of seeking redemption.[1]
