My people do not need compassion. They need to know you will end the Unliving to save them. That your morality will never come before their lives.

Teth-Adam is Black Adam, the magical, powerful ruler and ruthless protector of Kahndaq. A super-villain, and sometimes an anti-hero Black Adam often clashes with the superhero team Justice League of America.

By the moment the entire world was turning into absolute mayhem due to the spread of the Anti-Life Virus, Black Adam almost immediately knew its cause, ordering the disconnection of the entirety of Kahndaq off the internet with a keystroke. Nevertheless, casualties were unavoidable as Black Adam had no choice but to induce a one-man killing spree nationwide, using his divine powers to neutralize every single Anti-Living that he could find within his borders without hesitation.[1]

Not long afterwards, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Martian Manhunter arrived at the edge of Kahndaq to meet Adam personally, asking for his help on making Kahndaq a nation of refuge for the survivors the heroes have rescued. Being the intimidating tactician and overprotective ruler that he is, Adam bitterly rejected the heroes' request, knowing that neither Superman nor the rest of heroes with him will kill the Anti-Living.[1]

Adam nevertheless started to contemplate on the Justice League of America's proposal, being moved by Superman's persuasion, even consulting on his servant Vorenus whether Kahndaq should offer refuge to the world in such a chaotic time. He then reverts back into human form to see and meet some of his people in person, wherein he would encounter a woman who claims her son was hurt during his attack against the Anti-Living. However, upon checking what was going on with the situation, it was revealed that the woman's son was already infected with the Anti-Life Virus. By the time Adam muttered the words "Shazam", the infected child had scratched him, converting him into one of the Anti-Living as he transformed into his divine form.[1]

Everyone in Kahndaq either became one of the Anti-Living or died within an hour of his infection. He later led the horde of his infected citizens towards the fortress of Jotunheim in Qurac, where the Aerie spotted the horde coming from afar. He tried attacking them but they were teleported away in time by Wink, before he could land a hit.[2] As the horde assaulted Jotunheim, Wink told Raza Kattuah to goad him towards the with gunfire. The plan succeeded as she teleported him inside the mountain housing the fortress, but he soon broke out, causing the mountain to break in two.[3]

Wonder Woman arrived to save Jotunheim from falling after being told by the Aerie about the horde's assault, and Black Adam was stopped by the Justice League before he could attack her. Cyborg, Martian Manhunter and Superman dealt with him, while others pushed back the Anti-Living inside Nightshade's portal, trapping them in the Land of the Nightshades temporarily. Adam stopped fighting upon realizing this and reunited with the horde near the sea, before Nightshade allowed others to travel across with her portal.[4]

The Anti-Living horde later assaulted the survivors assembled at Nantucket, under the protection of younger superheroes. Black Adam pierced through the giant Atom Smasher during the battle and infected him.[5] Damian Wayne then directed the Blue Beetle Jaime Reyes, Superboy and Wonder Girl to focus on Adam as he was the bigger threat. Jaime personally fought him, while Superboy and Wonder Girl had to divert their attention to Atom Smasher, so he didn't crush their allies. Adam soon knocked Jaime away before unleashing a lightning attack upon the survivors. Superboy however got in the way, taking the brunt of the attack.[6]

As Superboy checked upon Jimmy Olsen, who had lost his eye, Adam pounced on the young hero and knocked away Damian and Wonder Girl as they tried to stop him. As Jon struggled to fend him off, he called out to his dad Superman, who soon reached the spot and knocked him away.[6] The Justice League soon arrived on Nantucket and Superman ordered the survivors to get on the ships. Adam however had recovered and injured the Martian Manhunter, who was struggling against the fires started by the infected Black Manta. Superman and Wonder Woman soon knocked him away, allowing the Green Lantern Dinah Lance to carry the survivors away to Poison Ivy's garden in Gotham City.[7]

Knowing that Adam and his Anti-Life army will next strike Gotham, Olsen manipulated Lex Luthor into thinking up a plan.[8] Superman, Dinah and Wonder Woman struggled to restrain him after he breached Ivy's defenses, forcing Superboy and Wonder Girl to join the battle, despite the elder heroes earlier telling them to stay away. Luthor meanwhile had Wink and the Pied Piper lure the Anti-Living, who were being guided by Nightshade.[9]

Wonder Woman used her Lasso of Truth on the pinned Adam to make him say "Shazam", transforming him back to his normal human form, though still possessed by the Anti-Life. Though she had earlier pretended to agree with Lex to kill Adam once he had transformed into a human, she later informed Superman about this plan. Superman instead used his heat vision to sever Adam's vocal chords, thus preventing him from ever speaking the magic word again. The horde was meanwhile forever trapped in the Land of the Nightshades.[10]
