Thaddeus Brown was the first Mister Miracle, the world's greatest escape artist.

Origin

As a young boy, Thaddeus Brown lived with his abusive uncle in the slums of New York. Fleeing west, he arrived in San Francisco, where he had his first encounter with street magicians. Entranced, Thaddeus studied slight of hand, illusion, and escapology, and took the name "Mister Miracle" as a stage name as he started working as a performer. He eventually found a position at Hill's Circus, and encountered Oberon in his travels with the group. Thaddeus became a costumed adventurer in addition to his role as a performer, with Oberon becoming his assistant, aiding him against the enemies he found during his journeys.[1]

Justice Society Dark

Though Thaddeus made many enemies, he also encountered more than a few allies, and together, they formed the Justice Society Dark, covertly fighting supernatural threats while their counterparts in the Justice Society fought evil in the limelight.

At some point, the group, including Thaddeus, was involved in an incident known as The Storm of Sin. Like much of the group's history, the details of this event are shrouded.[1]

Later Career and Death

Thaddeus continued as a performer for many years, taking on students, eventually training Bruce Wayne in the art of escapology. He also trained two successors; the New God Scot Free and Shilo Norman. He also fathered a son, Ted Brown.

Shortly after training Scot Free, Thaddeus was seemingly murdered by the gangster Steel Hand. However, many, including his son, eventually came to believe that his death was faked.[1]

Despite his apparent death, he featured as an old man in a simulation created by Batman many years later.
