Synopsis for "A New Generation"
Chatham and Sloan are unsuccessfully trying to recruit a black man, Jason Fisher, into the CDC, on Chatham's urging that the FDAA add a black superhero to the team in order to ease tensions. The men of the FDAA react negatively to Chatham's suggestion, but Chatham convinces them to agree as long as Fisher's identity is obscured.
Elsewhere, Johnny Lau, the actor that played the Red Terror, has suffered a mental breakdown due to the death of Old Glory and is hiding in New York City. In the first glimpse of racial animosity from the Southern Defense Corps, Mr. Lucky saves a black family from getting run down by a Confederate flag-bearing truck but replies to Ole Miss telling him he cut it a little close by expressing his joy at "...watching them little coons go bug-eyed[.]" In Baltimore, Jason Fisher's activist brother, Evan, scolds him for not taking part in their protests.
At what appears to be the University of Alabama, Chatham and Sloan attempt to convince Coach Boggs to return to the CDC to work with the new addition, but he maintains that his wife will not want to move. Sloan decides to pay her one million dollars to "go to Milwaukee and disappear." At the urging of Chatham, Freya and Pharos go on a staged date in Manhattan, where Freya utters a sexual comment to Pharos, causing him to knock her across the room. A battle follows, passed off as the work of "Brain Drain."
Back at the lab, Fisher's testing proves to be going well, but Sloan notes that his pain receptors are still active, which will cause him to die if they are overloaded. Boggs summons all the heroes to Manhattan to give a pep talk which Mr. Lucky interrupts. Boggs hands them all wrist transcievers in order to communicate with them.
Chatham hurries to the hospital, where he narrowly misses the birth of his son. The Secret Agent and X-15 find Lau, who flees to a rooftop and jumps to his death. Fully outfitted, The New American flies into the night.
