Synopsis for "The Prospects of Mankind"
The media fallout from The New American's racial revelation has begun, as Chatham and Sloan receive a berating from Bobby Kennedy. Safely in custody, The Wanderer has his powers nullified, the FDAA explaining the fight in terms of Wanderer wanting to reveal that Fisher was black.
At CDC Headquarters, the heroes chaotically discuss the matter of The New American. Southern Cross, true to his namesake, reveals himself to be a virulent racist, while Delta says that he may have been open to a black man on the team, it is an individual choice. Sloan and Chatham arrive, and Cross becomes enraged, insisting that he does not want to admit blacks are equal to them. Coach Boggs douses him with a beer and punches him. Pharos reminds the group that they have taken an oath to uphold the law, and segregation is illegal. Delta confronts Pharos about presidential overreach but is put down by a laser blast from Pharos. Due to the conflict, Cross, Lucky, and Delta leave the CDC for the south. Elsewhere, Fisher talks to Wanderer, who admits that if he had known Fisher was black, he would not have treated him kindly.
In Georgia, the SDC convene to agree to tell whites that the SDC will protect their rights. They still work with the CDC, but the alliance is shaky.
Elsewhere, Jason calls his brother and explains what is going on. Evan insists that Jason come south and fight white supremacists, but cannot say much as Chatham bursts in with agents a moment later.
The Secret Agent and the East Coast Intellectual bring evidence of criminals inspired by someone named Hellbent, who is revealed to be a sadistic killer and rapist kept on SDC payroll for extreme cases. Sloan and Chatham visit him in prison, where Sloan reveals that he will be employed to kill the family of a Cuban diplomat. However, Hellbent escapes and somehow boards the bus that Jason's brother is on, apparently slaughtering all on board. When he is confronted by Pharos, Secret Agent and Freya, he wounds Pharos, cuts off Secret Agent's right hand, and decapitates Freya, walking off into the sunset.
