Synopsis for "Negroes with Super-Powers"
The story opens with Hellbent in Mobile, AL, accompanied by the severed head of Freya, which he hints he has been using to fulfill his necrophiliac desires. Back in Washington, Chatham negotiates a pay raise with X-15 while Jason discusses his brother's injury with East Coast Intellectual. Amber and Muscle discuss her feelings since Freya's death, insisting that she will not miss a future chance to do things right. She then flies and leaves Muscle on the rooftop. While Chatham reveals to Sloan that Pharos has disconnected from human contact since the run-in with Hellbent, The Captain finds Jason, who is training at a punching bag. He apologizes for what happened to Evan, and hands Jason his pocket watch, insisting that he will never see Jason again. Hunt Calloway narrates Freya's funeral but is interrupted briefly by a black guerrilla network hijacking. In Georgia, Mighty Delta offers a dog-whistle explanation (fed to him by Southern Cross) for the Southern Defense Corps' departure from the mainline Civil Defense Corps. At the Chatham House, Tannis Darling meets Wes and takes him to a park, where she reveals her knowledge of Johnny Lau's death and of Coach Boggs' recruitment by the CDC. She shocks Chatham by revealing to him that Coach Boggs' wife was murdered, rather than simply missing. The Captain and Ole Miss foil a robbery, where he remarks on Ole Miss' frustration with Southern Cross. In Mobile, Hellbent is revealed to have slaughtered an entire bar of patrons, his location is later fed to Jason, who after briefly engaging Amber and X-15, flies to Mobile and assaults the sheriff, demanding information about Hellbent.
