The Atom #8 is an issue of the series Atom (Volume 1) with a cover date of September, 1963.
Synopsis for "The Lockup in the Lethal Lightbulb!"
Dr. Light manages to break out of prison using a specially treated light bulb to escape into the sidereal world. The warden of the prison asks Ray Palmer to use his scientific knowledge to figure out how Dr. Light managed to escape. Ray does so, recreating the experiment with the trace chemicals still left in the bulb, Ray creates a doorway into the sidereal realm big enough for the Atom to get through.
There, he tracks Dr. Light to his hideout and is easily captured. Dr. Light puts solder into his size changing device's control and traps the Atom in a light bulb which will eventually destroy him while he goes back to Earth's dimension to cause havoc so that he can get revenge against the Justice League of America.
The Atom uses the light bulb's own filament to reheat the solder in his controls and use his size changing abilities to get free. Returning to Earth's dimension, the Atom uses the element of surprise to deactivate Dr. Light's light weapons and defeats him and turns him back over to the authorities.
Later when the Atom meets with the Justice League of America, he tells them of his battle against Dr. Light.

Synopsis for "The Purloined Miniatures"
When a priceless art work is stolen and found in the lunch box of the art museum's security guard, he is arrested. Jean Loring is his lawyer and enlists the Atom's aid to try and prove that the man is innocent. With the stolen work of art put on display with it's accompanying works, the Atom decides to hide out in the painting's frame.
When a crook gasses everyone present and attempts to steal the painting, the Atom springs into action to stop him. After a brief battle, the thief is unmasked as Alfred Trask, an employee of the museum who wanted to initially frame the security guard because a war injury the guard sustained prevented him from being affected by any of his devices that would knock people out while he was committing his robbery.
