Quote1 Since there was man... there was his shadow', unnoticed, of course-- for who pays attention to shadows? But these shadows crawled forth from the darkest recesses of the Earth... perhaps from the darkest recesses of the human psyche. And they exist for one reason alone: to drag man into the pit. Quote2

The Dark is an entity that has influenced humans throughout history, spreading fear and compelling them to commit atrocities and injustice.

The Dark existed since the origins of humanity. It whispered in the ears of every man and woman to spread chaos and fear. It is revealed that many atrocities in humanity's history were influenced by The Dark, including Adolf Hitler's dictatorship, Jesus' Crucifixion, John F. Kennedy's shooting, famines, etc.[1]

To confront this evil force, Highfather created the Forever People to prevent The Dark from spreading its influence throughout all of the Earth. Using a woman called Fyre, The Dark managed to seduce and take control of Mark Moonrider. The Forever People defeated the shadows with the help of Maya, the spirit of Vykin's Mother Box.[2]

However, its defeat was temporary, and The Dark appeared again to take revenge on Highfather. Using Fyre to prove her worth after her failure against the Forever People, it kidnapped Scott Free to lure Highfather to a trap, but again was defeated by the Forever People with the help of Mister Miracle. The Dark and Fyre, however, escaped from the scene shortly after the battle began.[3]
